When politicians fail, people turn to cultural figures like Shatta Wale – Victoria Hamah

Victoria Hamah believes Shatta Wale’s rise mirrors a leadership vacuum in Ghana. According to her, the musician’s growing influence reflects how citizens have lost faith in traditional political leadership.

In her post reacting to ShattaFest sighed by MyNewsGh, she argued that the Shatta Movement has filled a gap created by politicians who no longer inspire confidence.

“When political rhetoric loses moral power, people turn to cultural figures who speak their language,” the former politician said.

Hamah compared Wale’s connection with fans to what political scientists describe as “populist energy”, where people rally behind a figure who expresses their frustrations more directly than political leaders.

She noted that while Shatta Wale unites people emotionally, this same populist force could become risky if it turns into blind hero worship.

“The challenge is whether this energy can be turned into something constructive,” she added.

“Otherwise, it remains emotional release without real change.”
