Where we’ve been and where we’re going – Asantehene’s son, Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, delivers emotional graduation speech
Oheneba Kwame Kyeretwie, son of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Head Prefect of DPS International School, delivered a heartfelt and reflective speech during his graduation ceremony, paying tribute to his parents, teachers, and fellow graduates of the Class of 2025.
Addressing a distinguished audience that included His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Lady Julia Osei Tutu, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, foreign ambassadors, school officials, parents, and students, Oheneba began his final address with a thoughtful tone.
I“As we approach the end of our journey together as students of DPS, there are many things I wish to express, and I believe they can be summed up into two parts—where we’ve been and where we’re going,” he said. “So I hope for us to keep this in mind as I deliver my final address to you all.”
Reflecting on the challenges faced by the graduating class, he highlighted the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition into a new curriculum.
“I’ve had many experiences throughout my time here and have overcome many obstacles… from adjusting to a new curriculum and school system after the COVID lockdown, to the challenges many of us here faced while finishing our final exams,” he said.
Expressing deep gratitude, Oheneba acknowledged the key role his parents played in shaping his academic and personal journey.
“Firstly, I’d like to thank two parts of my own heart—my mother and my father—my first and primary support system,” he said emotionally.
“The two individuals who have contributed to who I am today since my first day in the school.
“The people whose words and actions echo in my mind and soul on a daily basis. The main examples when I need reference, the main confidence when I need guidance.”
“I am so thankful to have had you as my first guidance throughout this journey,” he concluded.
