Why Appietus says he will not attend Daddy Lumba’s funeral
Ghanaian music producer Appiah Dankwah aka Appietus has announced that he will not attend the final funeral rites of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba due to the ongoing dispute within the family over conflicting burial dates.
Speaking in an interview on Aluta FM, he questioned why the family has been unable to agree on a single schedule.
“Why can’t the family sit down and choose a date? Right now, assuming a fight happens at the burial ceremony, who is to be blamed? Is that what we are looking for? I can’t attend the funeral because there are two dates, and since I can’t divide myself into two,” he said.
Appietus expressed concern over the rising tension surrounding the arrangements and warned that it could escalate on the day of the event. “Right now, tempers are high, so there is a higher chance that a fight can happen at the funeral. People can hire thugs to cause a fight there,” he cautioned.
He added that attending the funeral scheduled for December 13, 2025, might give the impression that he supports one faction of the family. “And if I go to the funeral ceremony scheduled for December 13, 2025, people will think I am supporting one side of the family, when that may not be my intention,” he explained.
The producer emphasized that until the family resolves the confusion, he prefers to stay away to avoid being embroiled in the dispute.
