Why Shatta Wale and I fell out

Entertainment journalist MC Portfolio has opened up about his relationship with Shatta Wale and the factors that led to their fallout, ultimately resulting in his alignment with rival Stonebwoy.
Speaking during an interview on the Asetena Pa show with Akoto Mansa, MC Portfolio revealed the real reasons behind the tension with Wale and how his professional values shaped his stance.
The journey between the two was once amicable. MC Portfolio, who describes himself as an entertainment journalist first, shared that he maintained a cordial relationship with Wale, but he quickly realized that loyalty to his own journalistic integrity would always come before personal friendships.
He explained that Shatta Wale’s camp follows a principle of infallibility, which he was not willing to accept. For MC Portfolio, his role as a journalist is to present the truth, not to bend to the will of anyone, no matter their status in the industry.
“The whole situation wasn’t about me personally,” MC Portfolio clarified. “I wasn’t offended by anything. But you see, when the fans of Wale began turning against me, it was because of a decision I made, and that was to publicly support Stonebwoy for the 2023 Ghana Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year.”
He went on to explain that this decision, though professional, was met with strong opposition from Wale’s supporters, who felt betrayed by his public show of support for their rival.
MC Portfolio, however, was adamant that his stance wasn’t about any personal grudge but was simply about fairness and recognizing Stonebwoy’s achievements.
“I wasn’t backing Stonebwoy because of some beef with Wale. It was about fairness and who truly deserved it,” he said. “I was just doing my job.
“It wasn’t even about me. I was with Andy Dosty and DJ Slim when I made the decision. We were all advocating for what we thought was right.”
MC Portfolio’s decision to back Stonebwoy and his reluctance to compromise his values sparked the division between him and Shatta Wale’s fans, yet he remains unshaken by the controversy.
As an entertainment journalist, he believes that his role is to provide an honest perspective, even when it means standing up for what’s right, regardless of who it might upset.
“I wasn’t compromising my integrity. I knew I had to stay true to myself. Supporting Stonebwoy wasn’t a personal issue with Wale, but I simply didn’t want to let anyone dictate what was right or wrong,” he concluded.
