Why should DJs take Payola money before playing songs
‘Gyamera Woyare’ hitmaker, Sony Achiba born Emmanuel John Bandick Dankwa has lambasted Disc Jockeys (DJs) for demanding money from musicians before playing their songs on the radio.
He made these remarks during an interview on Hello FM in Kumasi and said it’s painful for a good song not to get enough airplay because the musician couldn’t pay the DJ.
He opined “Sometimes I’m pained because you can listen to some songs and you know that the lyrical content and the melody are all on point.
“So you ask yourself why is no one playing this song but when a song is good you don’t need to pay DJs before they play the song,” he added as MyNewsGh.com’s Amansan Krakye saw.
He continued “But still I don’t understand why most of the DJs demand something before they play the song even if it is a very good song so we need to look at that.
“DJs don’t need to think that when you play the song and it becomes a hit the person will become rich and he wouldn’t mind you because your life shouldn’t depend on that person,” Sony Achiba said.
