You received $118,712 – Ground Up Chale lawyer replies Kwesi Arthur
Lawyer Jonathan K. Amable has denied claims by rapper Kwesi Arthur that he earned nothing during his time with the label, describing the allegations as misleading and contrary to documented records.
In a response issued on behalf of the company by Ground Up Chale, the lawyer said it was “concerning” that Kwesi Arthur would make public claims while ignoring prior reconciliations and accounting details already shared with him.
According to the response, Kwesi Arthur benefited from £91,370.00 in royalty disbursements during his time with the label, with a detailed breakdown previously provided to him.
The company further stated that despite these lawful allocations, the artiste also “solicited for and received an amount of USD 118,712.08 directly from Platoon without prior consent, knowledge or involvement” of Ground Up Chale.
The lawyer added that the unauthorised payments created a recoupment burden for the company, noting that an updated accounting showed an outstanding balance of £84,830 owed to Ground Up Chale.
“I have followed up with you via email and WhatsApp directly since May,” the response said, adding that efforts were also made to resolve the matter through mediation.
“I also communicated with your father to help mediate the situation and arranged a meeting to discuss repayment, which you failed to attend.”
The response comes after Kwesi Arthur accused Glen Boateng, founder and CEO of Ground Up Chale, of making excessive demands over his image and music.
In a post shared on Instagram, the rapper claimed he was being asked to pay $150,000 for using images of himself for a current project. He alleged that Ground Up Chale was demanding ownership of his image, music and brand from 2016 to date.
“If anything happens to me, Glen Boateng and all team members of Ground Up Chale are responsible and should be held responsible,” he wrote.
Kwesi Arthur further claimed that he earned nothing from his music during his years with the label.
“I have not made a dime from any of my music within the period I worked with them for years now,” he stated.
In a follow-up post, the rapper offered clarification, insisting that he had fulfilled his contractual obligations and acted in good faith even after his deal ended.
“I lived up to the contract. I did the time. Even after it was over, I decided to work with you on Son Of Jacob in good faith,” he said.
“I carried Ground Up Chale on my back,” Kwesi Arthur added, as disputes over royalties, image rights and financial accountability continue between both parties.
