2021/22 GHPL: Accra Lions coach Kraft praises team's display against Elmina Sharks in first league game

Accra Lions head coach, Rainer Kraft has heaped praise on his team following their impressive performance against Elmina Sharks in the opening game of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League on Friday.

The newly-promoted side fought back to draw 1-1 with Sharks in their first-ever Premier League game at the Accra Sports stadium.

Lions scored seven minutes from full-time courtesy of Rauf Salifu’s strike to earn their very first point in the Premiership.

“We created five or six chances in the match and I am happy about it. It is our first match in the Premier League – a very historic one and I am satisfied with the match,” coach Kraft said during his post-game conference.

“My team is made up of very young and inexperienced boys, that’s the biggest challenge we will face. You’ll talk to your players in the dressing room and see something very different on the pitch afterward and wonder what’s happening.”

He added, “You have to check out the spaces opponents offer you (as a player), but I am happy we created chances. Creating chances is important, scoring is something else, fifty percent of goals coincide with mistake.”

Accra Lions will take on Great Olympics on match week two of the Ghana Premier League as they go in search of their first-ever win in the top-flight.
