2021 AFCON: Gabon 1-1 Ghana – Black Stars remain winless after two matches
The Black Stars of Ghana are winless after two matches at the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament after a 1-1 draw against Gabon on Friday evening.
The two national teams today locked horns at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in a second Group C encounter of the ongoing continental showpiece in Cameroon.
Knowing that Morocco had earlier defeated Comoros 2-0 to open a gap at the top of the Group C standing, Ghana today set up strong with just one target, beat Gabon in 90 minutes.
As a result, the Black Stars fought very hard in the first half and had the lead at the break. It was all thanks to captain Andre Ayew who scored with a stunning effort after an assist from midfielder Thomas Partey.
From that point, Ghana looked in control of the game but with Gabon coming in strong in the second half, the team scored late to force the match to end in a 1-1 stalemate.
This puts Ghana’s campaign at the 2021 AFCON in jeopardy and a win against Comoros in the final match is a must.
