2021 AFCON: Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa eyes title
Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa is determined to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Super Eagles take on Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in a heavyweight bout in Group D on Tuesday.
Nigeria are three-time AFCON champions – most recently in 2013 and finished third in the last tournament in 2019.
“It’s something that I have really thought about and I feel blessed to say this will be my final Nations Cup with Nigeria,” Musa told BBC Sport Africa.
“What is important is to try to give my best and try to win it for my country. The players are fully aware of my plans and we have a squad good enough to win it again.
“It [the tournament in Cameroon] looks just like my first one in 2013 when no one gave us a chance, but we ended up as champions of Africa.
“I would like for the story of my Nations Cup to end very well like the first by winning it.”
He added, “There’s the need to give a chance to other young players to come through and play in the tournament.” “I got my chance as a young player. I’ve fulfilled some childhood memories.
“Everything that has a beginning must come to an end and for me, that journey ends here in Cameroon.”
