2021 Africa Cup of Nations: Only four players have quality to play for Black Stars – Charles Taylor slams players after early exit
Ghana football legend, Charles Taylor has taken a swipe at the current Black Stars players, claiming only four players have the quality to play for the national team.
The Hearts of Oak’s legend comment comes after the Black Stars were booted out of the ongoing 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cameroon.
Ghana suffered an embarrassing 3-2 defeat to lowly Comoros in the final Group C game to exit the tournament with just a point without a win.
Taylor who had an excellent career playing in the local league believes that most of the foreign-based players we invite to the team are over-pampered and lack the quality to represent the nation. adding that only four players of the current team merit a call-up.
“All those who play abroad, only 4 of them are quality than those who play in the local league,” he told Kumasi-based Silver FM in an interview.
“Amartey, Kyereh, Partey and Fatawu Issahaku are the only quality players in the squad. These are the boys who should be kept and blended with some serious local players,” he added.
“Nobody hates anybody because I was a better player than all those playing now. Playing in a foreign league doesn’t make you better than those who play here.
“The local players are better than those who came to represent us at the AFCON. They will say that they are not matured. I don’t know, if they sell maturity at Makola, we should go and buy some for the players,” he concluded.
