2022 FIFA WCQ: Ghana books place in final round after beating South Africa 1-0 to win Group G
Ghana has advanced to the next round of the African qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup following a 1-0 win over South Africa on Sunday night.
The Black Stars this evening hosted the Bafana Bafana at the Cape Coast Stadium for the final Group G encounter of the African qualifiers.
In a game where Ghana needed to win to leapfrog South Africa to the summit of the Group G standings, head coach Milovan Rajevac named a strong starting lineup to do battle for his team.
On the back of a good start to the game, Ghana, unfortunately, saw livewire Mohammed Kudus picking up an injury.
With Daniel-Kofi Kyereh coming in to replace the attacker, the home team kept pushing and managed to equalize after 32 minutes of the game.
Skipper Andre Ayew scored from the penalty spot to give Ghana the lead to take into the break.
Failing to score in the second half, the Black Stars held on to the narrow lead and cruised to victory to win Group G.
Courtesy of the result, Ghana has now advanced to the final round of the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
