2022 FIFA WCQ: South Africa coach Hugo Broos targets win against Zimbabwe
The head coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos says his side must win at all cost against Zimbabwe this month in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Pitted in Group G of the Africa qualifiers, the Bafana Bafana are currently leading the table and only needs to avoid defeat in the final two matches of the qualifiers to progress to the next stage.
Ahead of the final hurdle in Group G, Coach Hugo Broos says although the encounter will be tough for his team, they must fight to secure the maximum three points.
“It’s a tricky game. First of all they are the neighbours, so this is a derby. It’s always difficult.
“I don’t know what they are going to do. If the coach will maybe put a team in preparation of Afcon [2023] and maybe try some new payers. Or is he going back to some old players like before, and also preparing for Afcon?
“This is something we have to see in the next week. We have to focus on the fact that we have to win,” Coach Hugo Broos noted.
He added, “If we don’t win the game, what importance can the game in Ghana have? We need to be there [in Ghana] with one point ahead. Maybe more. Let’s hope more.”
After the Zimbabwe encounter, South Africa will take on Ghana in the last game of the qualifiers.
