2022 FIFA World Cup: Netherlands v Senegal to kick off this year’s mundial

The opening match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will be between Netherland and Senegal, FIFA has confirmed.

After the talks and the successful completion of over 95% of the qualifiers, the world football governing body at an event in Doha, Qatar last Friday held the draw for this year’s global tournament.

At the end of it all, the host nation Qatar as expected was pitted in Group A alongside Netherlands, Senegal, and Ecuador.

This year, FIFA has decided to forego tradition, and hence, the host nation will not play the first match of the world cup.

Instead, other group A opponents, Netherlands and Senegal will face off in a crunch meeting that will start at 1 pm local time (7 am GMT).

Later in the day, England and Iran will play the first match of Group B before Qatar takes to the pitch in the final game of the opening day of the world cup against Ecuador.
