2022 World Cup qualifiers: Boost for Ghana opponents South Africa as forward Thabiso Kutumela cleared to face Ethiopia

Ghana opponents South Africa has been handed massive squad boost ahead of their 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia as forward Thabiso Kutumela gets the clearance to feature this weekend.

The Bafana Bafana will take on the Walia Ibex of Ethiopia at away on October 9, 2021 at Bahir Dar Stadium in Addis Ababa before the reverse fixture at FNB Stadium on October 12.

Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, there were fears about the availability of the Mamelodi Sundowns forward due to issues surrounding Covid-19.

Coach Hugo Broos thought Kutumela may miss the Ethiopia game because of possible symptoms he would develop after Covid-19 vaccination.

But the South African Football Association (Safa) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tebogo Motlanthe has confirmed he will travel with the team and could feature against Ethiopia.

“The issue has since been resolved. Kutumela is currently in camp with the rest of the players and he will be travelling to Ethiopia,” Motlanthe told Sowetan Live.

“There was an issue with his vaccine and I was in camp in the morning [yesterday] and it’s fine. He will be travelling with the team and there are no issues with that anymore.” He said.
