2022 World Cup qualifiers: Fatau Dauda salivating for Ghana v Nigeria playoff tie

Former Ghana goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda, says he would prefer the Black Stars to play Nigeria in the playoffs.

The Black Stars after a shaky start of the qualifiers for the Mundial finally defeated South Africa in the final Group G games on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium to secure a place in the playoffs.

Andre Ayew scored an all-important goal to seal the three points for the Black Stars to qualify for the playoffs on goal difference.

The result means Ghana join Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Egypt and DR Congo to the play-off stage of the World Cup qualifiers.

With the draw for the playoffs scheduled for December this year, the former Ashgold shot-stopper says he prefers the Black Stars to play the Super Eagles.

“It was a good performance from the players,” he said on GTV Sports Plus.

“The entire team played with full of energy and urgency and we are in the playoffs now.

Quizzed which country he would prefer Ghana to play, he said, “I honestly want Black Stars to play Nigeria in the playoffs.

“They can give us a good test but I am confident we can beat them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nigeria, who sit on top of Group C with 12 points will play Cape Verde later today.

Ghana will be hoping to return to the global showpiece having missed out on the last edition hosted in Russia in 2018.
