2022 World Cup qualifiers: Seven players out of South Africa clash
Due to Covid-19 limitations, the Black Stars will leave Accra for Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon without seven players.
The Black Stars defeated Ethiopia 1-0 in the first game on Friday in Cape Coast, thanks to Wakaso Mubarak’s long shot.
However, Akonnor will have to change his starting lineup from the game against Ethiopia since players from England and Germany are unable to go to South Africa. This is because the country has been designated as one of the African countries with the highest number of Covid-19 cases.
As a result, defenders Daniel Amartey, Abdul Baba Rahman, Andy Yiadom, attacker Jordan Ayew, and Jeffrey Schlupp will not travel with the rest of the squad. Schlupp, who suffered a hamstring injury and was substituted during the game, will need to be evaluated further before returning to his club Crystal Palace.
Daniel Kofi Kyereh, who made his debut against Ethiopia as a first-half replacement, and Braydon Manu will also not travel.
The Black Stars now lead Group G with three points, two points ahead of South Africa, who drew 0-0 with Zimbabwe in their first game.
