2023 AFCON qualifiers: Reading defender Andy Yiadom handed late Black Stars call-up
Reading defender Andy Yiadom has been handed a late Black Stars call-up ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Central African Republic in June.
The 30-year-old was not included in coach Otto Addo’s initial 33-man squad announced on Thursday, but it appears on the Ghana Football Association’s website, the list has been updated.
Yiadom, who joined the Championship club in 2018 from Barnsley on a four-year deal had a descent campaign despite the club’s struggle in the 2021/22 season.
He won the Player of the season prize at Reading after featuring in 38 games for Reading in the Championship, chipping in with one goal and two assists in the process.
The Black Stars will take on the Barea of Madagascar in a Group E encounter before playing Central African Republic four days later.
Coach Otto Addo’s side will also take part in a four-nation tournament that features Japan, Chile and Tunisia as part of the build up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in November.
