Anthony Baffoe says he played key role in convincing Otto Addo to take up Black Stars job

Former Deputy General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Anthony Baffoe has disclosed he played a key role in convincing Otto Addo to take up the Black Stars coaching job.

Addo replaced Milovan Rajevac who was sacked after a humiliating exit at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

The 46-year-old led Ghana to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following a 1-1 against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Tuesday to seal qualification on the away goals rule.

“We have to move step by step from the team’s coach, to management to convince them to allow Otto for the Stars job because Mr. Addo has a valid contract with his current employer Borussia Dortmund,” Baffoe told GTV Sports+.

“In Europe and elsewhere things are done differently as compared to what happens on our Continent.”

The draw means Ghana have secured an historic 4th FIFA World Cup tournament having participated in 2006, 2010, and 2014 in Germany.

Otto Addo becomes the first Ghanaian player ever to feature at the World Cup and also qualify the team to the tournament.

Following the qualification, Otto Addo also becomes the second ingenious coach to take Ghana to the tournament after Kwesi Appiah in 2014.
