Appearance fee for Black Stars players is a curse – Osei Kofi
Ghana legend Rev Osei Kofi believes the appearance fee given to Black Stars players has become a curse on the team.
The Black Stars is among the 24 countries battling for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations title in Cameroon.
The four-time African Champions lost their game on Monday after a disappointing performance resulted in a 1-0 defeat against favorites Morocco and will hope to make amends in their second Group C game with Gabon tonight.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the 1963 and 1965 AFCON winner expressed the Black Stars cannot win the tournament as he believes the appearance fee given to the players has become a curse to the team.
“Appearance fee has become a curse to the national team because tax payers’ money were given to them but there was no result. This year is exactly 40-years Ghana won the AFCON but we used 19-years to win 4 titles for the country, yet we are not respected”
“You need to work before you receive money but why do you give players money as an appearance fee? He quizzed.
“Some of us who won trophies for the country have been left behind but Osei Kuffour and others who won nothing are with the team” he said.
