AS Roma youngster Afena-Gyan set for first Ghana appearance for Nigeria World Cup playoff tie
Ghana coach Otto Addo is expected to name AS Roma youngster Felix Afena Gyan in his squad for the final play-offs of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria.
Afena Gyan has rejected Black Stars call-up twice despite being named in ex-Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
According to reports, the representatives of the 19-year-old officially written to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressing their utmost appreciation for the invite but insisted he was not ready to feature for the Black Stars.
He first failed to show up despite being handed a call up ahead of the final round of games of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
However, the highly-rated youngster is expected to make the squad for the crucial double header.
Afena Gyan has been outstanding for Roma this season, scoring two goals in 13 Serie A appearances so far.
Ghana will take on Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium on March 25 in the first leg before travelling to Abuja for the return leg on March 29.
The winner of the tie will represent the continent at the World football showpiece which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022 in Qatar.
