Asamoah Gyan, Fatau Dauda among high-profile players without a club
Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan is among top football players who are free agents after the expiration of his contract with Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities.
Gyan, who returned to the Ghanaian top-flight last season penning a one-year loan deal with the Royals ended his stint with the moneybags on Monday.
Despite his signing generating lots of buzz around the club, the experienced forward failed to live up to expectation as his spell was plagued by injuries.
He featured six time in the 2020/21 season without a goal or an assist.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, the Communications Director of Legon Cities, Mr. Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang said Gyan’s departure marks a change of direction for the club under new Cities coach Maxwell Konadu.
“We had a one-year deal with the player and the one year has since elapsed,”
“The two parties have decided to go their separate ways, so the deal was not renewed. After the contract was reviewed, the club and the new manager wanted to go in a certain direction and as a club, we believe that should support the coach”.
Meanwhile, former Black Stars goalie Fatau Dauda who was offered a goalkeeping coach role at the club reached an agreement to leave the club to continue his playing career elsewhere.
Other players who has departed the club includes, Baba Mahama, youth star Matthew Anim Cudjoe, Richmond Antwi and HB Köge loanee Victorien Adebayor.
