Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah coy on Mariano Barreto’s future
Nana Yaw Amponsah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asante Kotoko says the club will decide the future of head coach Mariano Barreto at the end of the season after failing to win the League title.
The CEO was answering questions on the future of the Portuguese after losing out on winning the Ghana Premier League to Hearts of Oak.
But according to Nana Yaw Amponsah, the club will only take decision on the coach after the end of the MTN FA Cup.
“For us, we have a contract with him [Mariano Barreto] and he just spent just six months with us and he is playing in the MTN FA Cup so let us hold for him at the moment.
“At the end of the season, we will access him and if he has not met our target, we will take a decision,” Nana Yaw Amponsah shared in an interview on Asempa FM on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Asante Kotoko CEO has also explained that one of the key reasons to bring on board Mariano Barreto was to help manage the egos of players.
“The reason why hired Mariano was that at the time, most of Asante Kotoko players were getting called up to the Black Stars and we needed someone to manage the egos,” Nana Yaw Amponsah added.
Asante Kotoko will continue their MTN FA Cup title defense by hosting Berekum Chelsea on Sunday in the quarter finals of the competition.
