BREAKING NEWS: RTU secure Ghana Premier League qualification after 8 years absence
Real Tamale United have, after 8 years absence from the Ghana Premier League secured a return after the last round of matches in the Zone 1 of the Division One League.
The Pride of the North managed a 2-0 win over Unity FC at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale to pick the only ticket in that zone to the elite division.
While RTU were winning 2-0 over Unity FC, their close contenders, and then leaders of the zone, Bofoakwa Tano drew 0-0 with Berekum Arsenal at the Golden City Park.
With both RTU and Bofoakwa Tano pegged on the same points – 65 – RTU shot ahead of the Bono-Ahafo side with a superior head-to-head advantage.
RTU secured a 2-2 draw with Bofoakwa Tano at the Sunyani Coronation Park in the first round of the league and managed a 1-0 win over them at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in the return leg.
RTU’s return to the Ghana Premier League will be celebrated endlessly in Tamale following their 8 years’ absence since their demotion in 2013.
Led by former Hearts of Oak trainer Shaibu Tanko, the Pride of the North scored 58 goals in 30 games and conceded 24.
RTU’s demotion in 2013 was a mixture of financial crisis and managerial inefficiencies which affected results.
