C K Akonnor to invite five U20 title winning players to the Black Stars
Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor is set to hand debut call up to five players from the Black Satellites squad that won the recent U20 AFCON in Mauritania.
According to report, the coach will invite the tournament’s best player Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, free kick specialist Percius Boah, goalkeeper of the tournament Danlad Ibrahim, and the two full backs Philomon Baffour and Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye.
The coach is Keen to emulate the 2010 strategy by giving early confidence to the players who excelled at the U20 Championship in Mauritania to go to become future top players for the Black Stars.
With the reluctance of European clubs to release their players to come to Africa for the AFCON qualifiers due to the growing cases of coronavirus in South Africa where the Black Stars will play Bafana Bafana.
The coach is ready to draft the youngsters to fill in the void.
Fatawu Issahaku was voted the best player of the tournament due to his scintillating performance throughout the competition, the Steadfast midfielder could be handed a call to up to replace any of the midfielder’s in case they refuse to show up.
Percius Boah scored three goals in the tournament with two coming from set pieces. His ability to score from dead balls makes him special and could force Akonnor to hand him an invite.
The two full backs, Dreams FCs Philomon Baffour and Great Olympics Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye had a very good tournament in Mauritania.
With the inconsistencies of the likes of Andy Yaidom, Gideon Mensah and Baba Rahman the duo will be relishing an opportunity to prove their worth.
Danlad Ibrahim is also in line for a call up following his heroics at the just ended tournament.
The Black Stars head coach is expected to announce his squad for the double header in the coming days.
