Coach Dr. Ogum reacts to Kotoko's 1-0 victory against Gold Stars

Asante Kotoko narrowly beat Bibiani Gold Stars on Friday afternoon at Dun’s Park in the ongoing 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League season

After the game head coach Dr. Prosper Ogum reacted to his team’s win against the newly promoted Bibiani Gold Stars.

On goalkeeper Razak Abalora exploits and how he felt after the win today coach Ogum said:

“Its by his grace, the victory is good for our confidence if you look at the intensity of the game they were just kicking and following. They are very strong in the air, the pitch was not conducive for our usual passing and moving game. We were finding it very difficult to receive the balls and pass well but then irrespective of that we did the needful by scoring. And as for Razak that is why he is part of the team, that is his responsibility. When the last line of defense is beaten it is his responsibility to keep the team in the game and that is what he did both in the first half and second half. Kudos to him!. I like his confidence, his bravery and I like his judgment and his anticipation. He is great…he is a wonderful goalkeeper.

On Asante Kotoko not playing at their best and grinding out results:

“I think we are doing well, I don’t know what you mean by best but if you look at the game model we are trying to put in place, trying to pass the ball, follow, change positions and what have you I think its a new thing to them And as I always said it will take a little bit of a time for them to become automatic in their performance without thinking and making decisions on the field of play. So it is a gradual process, and i know with time they will be use to it whether the field is good or the field is not good we will be use to it. But I am very hopeful that when we play on a good field like Baba Yara or Accra Sports Stadium…on a synthetic field like WAFA I m sure we can play better than we did today,”

On the goalscorer Ogum said:

“He is an intelligent player, he is able to read and analyse the game. If you look at the way he scored the goal he just saw a little space there and he just put a small chip on the ball and that was it. It takes a player with high intelligence to be able to take that decision within that restricted or limited space in the game. So I am proud of him, he is a young chap I will talk to him to keep his focus so that he doesn’t become complacent and will be able to deliver as and when he is in the game,”

On excited Asante Kotoko fans:

“I want them to be patient they should be supportive like they have been, they should have confidence in the team they should believe in the team and always be by us. They should let us feel their presence around the team and am sure when they do that they motivate the gentlemen out there to deliver their best for the good image of Kumasi Asante Kotoko,”
