Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has disclosed a Committee will be formed to determine the Black Stars winning bonuses ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon].

Winning bonuses for the senior national team ahead of major tournaments have been a huge bone of contention between the state and players and has to some extent ruined the performance of the team during major tournaments.

The Minister who is leading the charge to secure $25m for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and Afcon believes it is important to avoid such a situation in the future and thus the move to determine these payments well ahead of the competition.

“Ghanaians are not worried about what we give the Black Stars but they are worried about how accountable we are,” he said reported by Citi Sports.

“They will want to make sure that whatever we give the Black Stars we get something back for it and I share the views of Ghanaians.

“Going to the Afcon and other competitions, a technical team should be put together to look at bonuses and compensation for the national team comprehensively.

“We should not wait till we are heading to the Afcon to start these discussions because that is the time when the team is supposed to focus on training and strategy for winning the competition.
