Don’t Rush them- Malik Jabir cautions about hurrying U-20 Players to Black Stars
Ghanaian football legend Malik Jabir has issued caution to Senior National Tema handlers not to rush some of the top performing under 20 players into the Black Stars.
The National U-20 side have become the toast of Ghanaians after conquering Africa at the recently ended U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Mauritania.
Coach Karim Zito’s side won the continental showpiece to make it number 4 for Ghana overall at that level and first since 2009.
The feat has led many to suggest the inclusion of some of the team’s best players in the Senior National team’s programme for the immediate and the long term future.
Eventually, 3 players of that squad namely goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlaad, Defender Philemon Baffour and Midfielder Abdul Fatawu Issahaku -who won the Tournament MVP- have been invited to camp with the Black Stars ahead of this month’s AFCON qualifiers.

While some have applauded this, others have also hammered on the need to be very cautious in rushing the boys to the national team and causing a potential talent burnout.
Malik Jabir belongs to the latter school of thought and believes the current U-20 boys aren’t ready yet for the full rigors of what senior level football entails.
He told Kessben TV in an interview, “Do you think any Under 20 player currently can face any Nigerian professional when they meet on the pitch. Do you think they can face any Cameroonian, Congolese, any Malian, what about these Arabs…Salah and Co.
“Can the Under 20 lad can face Salah when they meet Egypt? They shouldn’t rush them… Honestly they should not rush them,” he concluded.
