Eguavoen discloses who advised him on his starting XI for the match against Ghana

Augustine Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles caretaker coach, has disclosed who advised him on the starting eleven that faced Ghana in Abuja last Tuesday.

Nigeria was eliminated from the November World Cup event in Qatar after losing to Ghana on the away goal rule.

To the astonishment of many fans, Eguavoen started Calvin Bassey of Rangers and Emmanuel Dennis of Watford in the game.

Bassey was chosen by the coach over the more experienced Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi.

In the 88th minute, Bassey was replaced by center forward Umar Sadiq as Nigeria sought a winning goal.

“The only people I discussed selections with are my backroom staff, then they will give me their own suggestions and then I go and sleep over it and then come up with the final say,” Eguavoen told Super Sport.

“About Bassey, you saw that the left-back in Kumasi (Zaidu Sanusi) didn’t really play well, until Bassey came in the second half,”

“We have been clamoring also on the right side, Chukwueze had an injury and then the Watford kid had to come in,”
