Ethiopia v Ghana: Three things we learned
The Black Stars on Thursday afternoon drew 1-1 against Ethiopia at the Orlando Stadium in the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars had a poor game with the Ethiopians having numerous goal scoring opportunities through out the game.
Captain Andre Ayew scored from a free kick in the first half and the Ethiopians responded late into the second after Ghana’s love for misplacing passes and lazy play got up to them.
These are the three things we learned:
Joseph Aidoo and Daniel Amartey partnership at the back
Coach Milovan selected the duo due to Jonathan Mensah’s unavailability due to injury and it back fired spectacularly. There was no communication between them, they constantly put Swindon goalkeeper Jojo under pressure with their wayward passing. Aidoo was caught in two minds when he received a ball late in the second and tried to dribble his way out of trouble. This lead to him getting disposed and Ethiopia going on to score.
Jordan Ayew’s goal drought continues
The Crystal Palace attacker has been under the spotlight recently due to his lack of goals for club and country. He scored in a Black Stars friendly ahead of this game. He could not find the back of the net today due to his habit of going wide, and dropping deep. One instance that got the attention of fans is, Kamaldeen managed to dribble through a couple of Ethiopian players got to the edge of the box, and slipped a pass to Jordan who was now playing on the left side. His cross into the box missed all the white shirts in the box.
Kamaldeen Sulemana keeps on getting better
The in form Rennes attacker was full of running, he used his dribbling abilities to open the defensive shape of the Ethiopians. In one of his dazzling runs through the legs of the Ethiopians, he nearly scored. He was a constant threat when Ghana decides to attack. His off the ball movement and energy was outstanding.
