“Football is God’s gift for me”- Hasaacas Ladies Milot Pokuaa reveals
Ahead of the 1st edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League, Hasaacas Ladies attacker Milot Pokuaa says Football is a gift given to her by God.
The 20 year old in an exclusive interview with CAFonline revealed how she ended up as a professional footballer.
“Football was like a gift given to me by god. I did not know how to play football, but when I started at the primary school, it felt like a gift given to me. That’s why football is in everything in my life. Even when I sleep, I dream about football”. Those were the words of the twenty years old Pokuaa Milot Abena, who plays for Hassacas Ladies FC, and wears number 3 despite playing as a striker.
“I did not expect football to be my job, but everything I do about it, I do it with my whole heart. It was an unknown dream for me, to have a job that I love the most”, Milot said about being a footballer.
It was not an easy way for Milot to be a professional footballer. “It’s never easy, you go through many challenges. These challenges will never get easier, but sometimes you do not have the support you need from people around you. All you need to do is pray and rely on trustworthy people that can help develop your football career. I always believe that we play 90 minutes, same as men, so we deserve the same attention men’s football have. So, it was never easy for me, it’s been all hard work, that is the thing that makes me able to move forward.”
Regarding participating with her club in the 1st edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League, Milot said: “I’m really excited to be in this tournament with Hasaacas Ladies FC. We always only played locally, I never dreamt of CAF organizing a tournament like this one. Everyone is happy about this because after being local champions of your country, now we are able to travel all the way from Ghana to Egypt to participate in CAF Women’s Champions League. It’s a very exciting moment and I’m so grateful to be part of it”.
Milot sees her side capable of going back home with the trophy itself. “Of course, we can! We are our country’s champions already so we can be this tournament’s champions as well. We only accomplished this with hard work and determination and that makes us a very special team”.
Milot expressed her desire to deliver a message to anyone that loves football, especially young women, saying: “If you love football, be serious about it, make a career out of it. That’s what I did so far. Great players always learn from others, and I urge you to learn from people you see making their dreams true nowadays”.
Finally, Milot said she will have a special celebration in case she scores a goal in this tournament. “I will dedicate this to my mother,” she concluded.
