Former GFA boss Nyantakyi says VAR would have awarded Black Stars the goal despite Luis Suarez's deliberate handball in 2010 World Cup

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi claims the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) would have awarded Black Stars the goal despite Luis Suarez’s deliberate handball against Uruguay in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

A handball by Suarez stopped a certain goalbound shot deep into injury time, in one of the most controversial and memorable moments of thE tournament.

The Atletico Madrid striker was sent off – but Ghana missed the resulting spot-kick.

No further goals were scored in extra-time and Uruguay advanced to the semis after winning the penalty shoot-out 4-2.

“During the 2010 World Cup match between Ghana and Uruguay, the ball Suarez cleared with his hand crossed the line & would have been declared a goal with VAR. John Mensah who was captain went pointing to his arm to the referee leading to the penalty rather,” Nyantakyi told Onua TV.
