From the bench I couldn’t see for sure whether Ghana’s penalty was legit - Hugo Broos

South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos says he did not see clearly the incident that resulted in Ghana being awarded a penalty kick on Sunday night.

The Bafana Bafana yesterday lost 1-0 to the Black Stars and as a result, have missed out on qualification to next year’s global tournament.

On the matchday, Ghana was awarded a penalty kick when defender Daniel Amartey was brought down after an effected corner.

Asked about the penalty incident after the match, South Africa coach Hugo Broos says he did not get a better view from where he was standings.

“It was very difficult to see from the bench. It was a corner, I think, and I don’t know what happened there. I don’t know. I couldn’t see it. Whether something happened or not I don’t know,” the veteran coach said while adding, “But I saw my players were surprised that the referee awarded the penalty.”

South Africans were particularly not happy with the decision by the matchday referee to award the penalty kick.

Safa since the end of the match has been urged to petition FIFA for a replay of the game.
