Gambia Football Federation wants Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi to be disciplined
Gambia Football Federation is not happy with some statements made by Algerian national team coach Djamel Belmadi about referee Bakary Gassama.
Gassama has come under criticism in Algeria for his actions following Algeria’s 2-1 loss to Cameroon in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match on March 29, which resulted in the North Africans missing out on a spot at the tournament in Qatar.
The GFF stated that it has been watching the verbal attacks on Gassama with “grave concern.”
According to the organization’s statement, it filed an official complaint with FAF and requested that Fifa and the Confederation of African Football (Caf) launch investigations and disciplinary processes against Belmadi.
The Gambia FF statement reads: “We’ve asked the Algerian federation to make a public statement condemning the actions of Mr Belmadi and all the verbal attacks against Mr Gassama by Algerians,”
“take all necessary precautions to restrain their officials and nationals from making any further negative remarks and threats against Mr Gassama”.
“Otherwise, their federation will be held responsible and complicit for any harm which may happen to him.”
