GFA Prez Kurt Okraku presents AFCON U-20 AFCON trophy to Mayor of Accra
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has presented the 2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy won in Mauritania, to the Mayor of Accra, Mohammed Adjei Sowah.
Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku presented the country’s fourth U-20 AFCON trophy won by the Black Satellites on Saturday to the Mayor of Accra on Tuesday at the first-ever GFA/SWAG capacity building programme held at Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The AMA boss upon receiving the trophy said sports remains an important tool to create employment and wealth among the youth and develop the country adding that with a clear strategy with a dedicated team the country can achieve more in the area.
He also stressed the need to develop lesser-known sports and disciplines in the country since it holds the potential of reducing the rising unemployment rate in the country and urged the media to highlight and promote the positives associated with sports.
He also expressed interest to work with sports administrators and institutions and to promote the Trust Sports Emporium (TSE) in Accra and make the place more active than it is.
“I am the ambassador of the Trust Sports Emporium (TSE) in Accra and I can say the place is less utilised… We want to work closely with sports gurus to make the place very active,” he said.
He also used the opportunity to congratulate all contestants at the just ended Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) elections for the maturity and spirit of friendship displayed before, during and after the elections.
Speaking at the event, President Simeon-Okraku touched on the importance of the media to the development of Ghana Football and stated that his administration was committed to building a solid partnership with the media.
“The GFA’s new way of work include transparency and ensuring that there’s a constant flow of information. SWAG is a body to ensure we deliver on our mandate and most importantly a body the GFA holds in high esteem.” President Simeon-Okraku said.
“The media is very important and so I have worked closely with SWAG since I took office. The GFA has not departed from taking media men on national assignments because of how important they are to the development of our Sport,” he further stated.
