Just a few hours remain until Mariano Barreto takes his spot on the sidelines for the first time in the Ghana Premier League as coach of Asante Kotoko.

The experienced Portuguese manager was appointed just before the start of the second round, but will be on the bench for the first time today due to delay in acquiring his work permit.

The 64 year old trainer watched from the stands as Kotoko settled for a point in Techiman against Eeven Wonders last Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors are set to host Bechem United in an outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture on Wednesday at their newly adopted home venue; the Len Clay Stadium at Obuasi.

The matchweek 16 fixture which was suppose to take place on February 25 had to be moved to April 7 after a heavy downpour in Accra that left areas of the pitch in an unplayable condition.

Following their recent draw with Eleven Wonders, Kotoko find themselves 5 behind league leaders Great Olympics and know a win will help their cause.

“The most important this now is not looking at the others. Bechem United are performing well and are behind us, but it doesn’t mean it’s an easy match. It means we must respect them but then must follow our target because we have to look at the top position,” Mariano said in a pre-match interview.
