Ghana U-20 star Abdul Fatawu backed for Black Stars role
Head Coach of Ghana’s Local Black Stars, Ibrahim Tanko wants handlers of the senior national team to include Abdul Fatawu Issahaku in their plans for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament next year.
According to Tanko, the youngster’s recent moments of brilliance on the pitch means he deserves a place in the senior national football team.
16 year old Abdul Fatawu following his exploits for Ghana’s all-conquering U-20 side at the AFCON U-20 tournament has become the darling boy of Ghana football. His exceptional performance at the competition earned him the accolade of the tournament MVP.
Subsequently he’s improved on his performances and was recently invited into the Black Stars camp for recent assignemnts against Sao Tome and Principe.
Eventually it was with the Black Stars B team that he got a shot, starting and excelling in a recent friendly against Uzbekistan. Fatawu scored Ghana’s only goal that friendly defeat and according to Tanko, the youngster has the quality to represent the senior national team proper.
Just last week, Abdul Fatawu netted a hat-trick for promotion-chasing Division One League side, Steadfast FC.
In an interview with Happy FM, Ibrahim Tanko said “Fatawu has the quality and he has to join the Black Stars.
“We have to nurture him because the talent is huge. I have known him since his days at Shooting Stars before I came to meet him again at the national U17 team and U-23 team.
“They played a game at Mc Dan Park and I was discussing with the technical director how well they can play him and Coach Karim Zito went to play him a very wisely at the tournament.
“All I pray for him is to be stay fit because to be great you have to be fit and if he is fit he will go very far”, he added.
