Ghanaian footballer who scored two own goals and under travel ban features for Nigerien side USGN
A Ghanaian footballer Hashim Musah who is under investigation and banned from travelling outside Ghana for scoring TWO deliberate OWN goals in a Premier League featured for Nigerien side Union Sportive de la Gendarmerie Nationale in a CAF Confederation Cup match on Sunday in an extraordinary and shocking turn of events.
The Ghanaian own goal scorer played full throttle for the Nigerien side in their 5-3 defeat at RSB Berkane in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
It’s unclear how the former Inter Allies defender got his documentation to travel outside the country after the Ghana FA issued a fiat banning players who featured in the scandalous match at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi last season.
Hashim Musah grabbed global headlines after he climbed off the bench to score two deliberate own goals during a league match against AshantiGold – and claimed later he foiled an alleged match-fixing plot.
“Following the review of the match video, match reports and information received by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) so far, the entire playing body and team officials of AshantiGold SC and Inter Allies FC who featured in the Matchday 34 Ghana Premier League game played in Obuasi on Saturday, July 17, 2021, have been placed under sporting investigation,” the Ghana FA said in a statement six months ago.
“The General Public and all Stakeholders are to note that until investigations are over, the Ghana Football Association will not approve the issuance of any International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and Introductory letter to any Embassy for visas for any of the persons under investigation.”
However, it appears the directive of the FA has been thrown into the dustbin after officials at the same association issued the International Transfer Certificate to the player to enable him to feature for the Nigerien side.
This is a massive slap and an insult to claims of fighting match-fixing which has crippled Ghanaian football.
With lack of action from the football association, it appears the match-fixing scandal that brought global shame to Ghanaian football will continue unabated and further destroy the sporting sanity of the brand.
The Ghana FA appears to be paying lip service to claims of fighting the cancerous match-fixing debacle after Hashim Musah managed to sneak out of the country to continue his career despite being placed under a travel ban.
Musah came on against Ashanti Gold with the score at 5-0 and scored two deliberate own goals in the final 12 minutes. The match finished 7-0 on the final day of last season.
Musah insists his goals were deliberate and that his teammates congratulated him for spoiling the ‘pre-agreed’ scoreline put in place for betting reasons.
“I heard it in our hotel that a bet had been made for a correct scoreline of 5-1 against my club Inter Allies. I promised my coach that if he allows me to play from the bench, I will spoil the bet. And after the game, my team congratulated me” Musah told Kumasi FM.
Inter Allies went into the final game of the season already condemned to relegation from the Premier League and were 5-0 down before Musah’s introduction.
He would later be substituted out of the match just before full-time following his two own goals.
