GHc3,000 should be minimum wage for Ghana league players – Ex-Medeama forward Enoch Attah Agyei
Former Medeama winger Enoch Attah Agyei has suggested a minimum salary of GHc3000 for local players in order to curb player exodus.
The mass exodus of players in the domestic top-flight league has affected the standard of the Ghana Premier League and also the performance of Ghanaian teams in Africa.
Most players who turn out to perform well join other clubs on the continent or move to Europe for greener pastures.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Ghana youth star said a minimum salary of three thousand cedis will help in retaining the quality players in the local scene.
“Local players should earn a minimum salary of GHc3,000 and I believe it will help to prevent the rampant player exodus in the country. I have played in Tanzania and Guinea so I know how players are paid there. One thing is that, most of the clubs there have sponsors, some foreign players earn a minimum wage of $4,000 to $5000”
“So, in keeping the players, the clubs must ensure players are paid well” he said.
The former Ghana youth star is currently without a club after parting ways with Horoya AC months ago.
Atta Agyei moved to Tanzanian giants Azam FC after a fabulous campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup with Ghanaian side, Medeama in 2016.
He subsequently joined Horoya AC after leaving the Tanzanian side.
But after close to three seasons, the 23-year-old has left the club.
