Great Olympics’ influential skipper Gladson Awako made his Ghana debut on Sunday in the 2021 AFCON Qualifier in the Black Stars’ 3-1 win over Sao Tome.

Awako replaced Osman Bukari at the start of the second half at the Accra Sports Stadium in a game that was played behind closed doors due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

The 30-year old was one of four players who were handed their senior debuts for Ghana in a game that was inconsequential to Ghana’s qualification.

Awako who was a member of the 2009 FIFA World Cup winning squad has suddenly pooped up on the local scene with a fine form after returning home to revive his career.

He helped Chelsea to win the Ghana Premier League and played in the CAF Champions League with Ghanaian champions in 2012.

Awako was sold to Congolese giants TP Mazembe where he won a lot of domestic and continental titles.
