GPL Preview: Dreams FC Vs Great Olympics, Still Believe Boys hope to usurp Dade Boys in chase for title
The theater of dreams at Dawu will witness yet another interesting Ghana Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon when Dreams FC host Accra Great Olympics.
It’s a battle of 3rd vs 2nd place when Dreams host Olympics. Dreams FC will want to keep the momentum going with their recent fine form at home. They have won all home matches in 2021 since losing to Asante Kotoko in December last year. Their current run stands at 5 wins at Dawu with a staggering 17 goals scored. Impressively Dreams FC have conceded only 4 goals in these matches and kept 2 clean sheets in the process.
They are gradually making a fortress out of the Theater of Dreams and away teams are beginning to fret whenever they visit.
One player who has been outstanding in this fine run is Joseph Esso. The former Hearts of Oak attacker has netted 7 times for Dreams in their last 5 games at Dawu and will be raring to go again when Great Olympics hit town.
Olympics’ will reflect on their away form and know the odds are stacked against them in this one. The Dade Boys have not picked an away point in their last 2 trips losing both games against Eleven Wonders and Bechem.
It’s interesting to note that all 3 away victories chalked by Great Olympics have come at the Accra Sports Stadium; their original home venue. Inter Allies, Hearts of Oak, and Asante Kotoko have been victims to Olympics while hosting the Dade Boys at the nation’s Wembley.
Take those matches out and Olympics’ away form outside the Accra Sports Stadium makes for grim reading. They have picked just a point (an away draw at Tarkwa vs Medeama) out of 5 matches; losing the remaining 4.
It will be an intriguing battle between 3rd and 2nd with Great Olympics under threat of losing their position directly behind league leaders Karela United to a determined Dreams FC.
The game kicks off at 3pm GMT.
FORM GUIDE:
Dreams FC have lost just once in nine games and sit in third place with 26 points from 16 matches.
A win will send them to second, 2 points behind league leaders Karela United who came back from a goal down to beat Aduana Stars on Saturday.
Coach Vladislav Viric since taking over has prove he has the tactical nous to transform the side once sturggkine before his arrival into a league title contender.
Dreams in their last five games have lost just once and won 4.
They have recorded comfortable wins against AshantiGold SC, Aduana Stars, Eleven Wonders and WAFA with their only blemish being an away loss to Chelsea.
Joseph Esso will be keen to add to his 10 goals this season to keep the chase on Diawusie Taylor who now has 12 goals following his brace against Aduana on Saturday.
Great Olympics’ record in their last 5 games stand at 3 wins and 2 defeats with those losses coming in away matches to Eleven Wonders and Bechem United.
Coach Annor Walker has returned after some spell away from the team due to illness while star man Gladson Awako is the subject of a transfer interest from Accra Hearts of Oak.
The Dade Lads are second on the league log on 27 points, 1 more than 3rd placed Dreams FC.
