GPL Preview: Karela United target return to top spot in AshantiGold duel
Karela United will eye a return to the summit of the Ghana Premier League table when they host AshantiGold SC on Sunday.
Karela will welcome the Miners to the Nzema Ayinase CAM Park, hoping to continue to assert their home dominance over their opponents.
Aside Asante Kotoko, every team that has visited the dreaded CAM Park has seen defeat, and the home side is eager to make Obuasi-based Ashgold their next victim.
At home, Karela United have demonstrated absolute dominance and discharged opponents with ease. They have won 8 out of their 9 home league games this season in their pursuit of a first ever league title.
What will fuel their push for victory is to return to the top of the pile after losing that spot when Great Olympics beat Medeama SC to claim that position.
Striker Diawusie Taylor who is the league’s top scorer has netted 5 of his 12 goals in home games and will be keen to increase his tally when a leaky Ashgold defense visit.
Aside King Faisal, AshantiGold have shipped in the most goals in the league. The Miners have conceded 24 times just three short of King Faisal’s 27. On the road they have conceded 17 goals in 9 games, a trend that will worry new coach Romain Folz.
The Miners have also kept just one clean sheet in the last 5 away games in the league, conceding 12 goals in the process.
French tactician, Folz, was brought on board just before the resumption of the second leg and he has a tough task at hand in pulling the plug on his side’s free falling.
The first round game produced 4 goals in a 2-2 draw at Obuasi. Expect this one to produce more excitement and good football, with the home side digging deep to claim all maximum points.
