GPL Report: Asante Kotoko prove Dreams FC's nightmare as debutants deliver in season opener

It was a dream start for new Asante Kotoko Head Coach Prosper Narteh-Ogum as they clawed back from a goal down to beat Dreams FC on Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors traveled to Accra to face Dreams in their season opener which also marked the first official game for Coach Ogum who joined the side from WAFA.

The first half of the game failed to produce goals despite some delightful football from the two clubs.

However back from recess, the goals started pouring in from both sides.

Dreams drew first blood courtesy debutant Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. He slalomed his way through a body of Kotoko defenders before cooly slotting the ball into the net inside 64 minutes.

The goal gave the home side much confidence and they should have increased their lead. However they failed to make that good spell count due to a lack of composure upfront.

A relentless Kotoko side however not dented by the goal conceded, pushed for their equalizer as the clock ticked closer to full time. Their efforts were duly rewarded with 4 minutes of normal time remaining.

After been played through courtesy a beautiful pass, midfielder Mudasiru Salifu cool slotted the ball under the legs of the on-rushing Dreams FC goalie Agbesi.

The goal downed the spirit of Dreams while having a reverse effect on the away side.

Smelling blood, Kotoko pushed for the lead and delivered it 3 minutes later. After a poor clearance in the box by the Dreams FC defense from a cross from the left, second half substitute Isaac Oppong unleashed a sweet volley which beat Agbesi to make it 2.

Oppong, who was playing in the third tier of Ghana Football couldnt have asked for a better debut goal than his strike as the whole team poured on him in celebration of it.

The final nail on the coffin came in added on time when Richmond Lamptey delivered one his trademark goals. The former Inter Allies midfielder who was also making his league debut for Kotoko released a bullet of a shot which sailed through into the net for the third goal.

In the end Kotoko won 3-1 and now climb to the first position on the league log. Dreams FC will hope to bounce back in their next encounter.
