Hasaacas Ladies to participate in 2022/23 CAF Women’s Champions League campaign despite defeat to Ampem Darkoa Ladies
Last season CAF Women’s Champions League finalists Hasaacas Ladies could participate in the competition next season despite defeats in the final to Ampem Darkoa Ladies.
On Saturday, Ampem Darkoa Ladies won their first Women’s Premier League title after defeating Hasaacas Ladies in the final game played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Techiman-based side defeated Hasaacas Ladies 5-4 on penalties to win the Women’s Premier League title.
The game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes with penalties needed to separate the two teams.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies who emerged as winners of the Women’s Premier League will automatically represent Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Women’s Champions League campaign.
But Hasaacas Ladies per article 12 of the competition rules will engage two teams as WAFU B champions last season, however, if they are able to emerge as winners they could participate in the Champions League.
This means Ghana could have two teams in the second edition of the Champions League.
“The qualifiers will be organized by the 6 zones recognized in CAF statutes. Each zone will qualify one team to the final tournament and the zone of the team holder of the title will engage two teams (the holder of the title in addition to another team). For the first edition seeing that there is no holder of title, the zone of the country holding the title of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will engage two teams”
“Seven teams will qualify to the final tournament in addition to the champion team of the host country who is automatically qualified”
“A zonal qualifiers tournament will be organized by each zone to determine the team qualified to the final tournament”, article reads.
Article 2(2.4) also says; “The winner of CAF Women’s Champions League must take part in the next edition of CAF Champions League”
“In case, the winner of the Women’s Champions League is at the same time the winner of the local league, the concerned association can engage the club vice Champion of the local league.
Hasaacas Ladies won the WAFU Zone B qualifiers, in Cote D’Ivoire before weaving their way into the final in Egypt where they lost the trophy to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in the final.
