Hearts of Oak warned against complacency by Frederick Ansah Botchway
Hearts of Oak midfielder, Frederick Ansah Botchway, has called on his teammates to avoid being complacent ahead of their CAF Champions League participation next season.
Botchway told the Graphic Sports that Hearts would be the target of every domestic club next season; hence, the need to improve upon their performance if they were to retain the Ghana Premier League title.
Following their spectacular performance this season, supporters of Hearts expect to see their idol club conquer Africa next season.
In a chat, the midfield enforcer revealed that he and his teammates were ready to make a name for themselves on the continental stage; hence, they were ready to continue working harder.
“We don’t have to be complacent going into the new season because we will be the focus of every team in the country.
“If we have to defend our league title successfully, then we have to improve upon our game. I believe everyone is ready for that because we know the task ahead of us,” he noted.
“We know what lies ahead of us, especially playing in the Champions League, but I can tell you that everyone is committed to making a name for himself and so we will continue working hard,” Botchway said.
The midfielder has been an instrumental figure in Hearts’ league success, with the likes of Emmanuel Nettey, Ibrahim Salifu and Isaac Mensah being his midfield partners.
Touching on the transformation of the team midway through the season, Botchway credited Coach Samuel Boadu for bringing unity back into the team.
“We were playing well but were missing chances and you know how inconsistent we were at the beginning of the season. But our new coach came and transformed all of us.
“The key thing he did was to unite all of us and that has been the difference for the team,” he explained.
