Moment of truth has come for the home based players to silent their critics as Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor is set to give them a huge opportunity against South Africa and Sao Tome and Princepe in the AFCON qualifiers.

Akonnor is leaving no stone unturned amid fears the covid-19 restrictions could prevent several Europe-based stars to make the squad for the two qualifiers.

It’s a massive chance for the home-based players to stake a claim in the team and test the quality of the domestic league.

Akonnor has been camping the team for the past three weeks as he prepare to do with the
home based players with the availability of the foreign based players seem unlikely.

With the exception of Mubarak Wakasu and Emmanuel Boateng, the rest of the players currently in camp are home based stars.

The likes of Gladson Awako, Diawusie Taylor, Kwame Opoku, Yaw Annor and Ganiu who have been impressive in the Ghana Premier League will be looking to impress and stake a claim for themselves in the national team.

First choice goalkeeper, Richard Ofori has been ruled out of the game following his injury in the CAF Champions League game between Orlando Pirates against E S Setif.

The likes of Eric Ofori Antwi, Razak Abalora and Joseph Addo will fancy their chances in the coming games.
