Joseph Paintsil disappointed after cup elimination
Despite scoring a brace, Joseph Painstil was unhappy with Genk’s elimination from the Belgian Cup on Wednesday.
The Ghanaian playmaker scored two goals, but it wasn’t enough as Clubb Brugge drew 3-3 after extra time and won the penalty shootout 5-3.
Eder Alvarez’s goal for Club Brugge after seven minutes put the visitors ahead.
Kristian Thorstvedt equalized on the half-hour mark before Joseph Painstil put Genk ahead at the break.
Charles Ketelaere scored for Genk in the 69th minute, but Painstil equalized a minute later.
Club Brugge, on the other hand, will force extra time with an 89th-minute equaliser.
Patrik Hrososvky’s blunder in the penalty shootout denied Genk the chance to advance to the quarter finals.
Joseph Paintsil surprisingly started in the striking position. No Onuachu, no Ugbo. It seemed to be a golden move from John van den Brom. “Unfortunately, things turned out differently”, the Ghanaian sighed.
This season the Ghanaian playmaker has scored five goals for Genk.
