Kotoko Coach Johnson Smith ‘cries’ for striking reinforcement
Asante Kotoko’s interim Head Coach Johnson Smith has called for reinforcements in his attacking department to beef up his team in the ongoing season.
His comments come in the wake of the club’s narrow home defeat to Aduana Stars in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.
A second half strike by Samuel Bioh condemned Kotoko to their second league loss of the season and end the club’s unbeaten league run under the former Karela United gaffer.
Johnson Smith who was handed the reins (albeit temporarily) following the exit of Maxwell Konadu, believes he could do with more attacking options especially one to relieve the heavy burden on top striker Kwame Poku.
In the absence of such, Smith deployed Brazilian Fabio Gama to support Poku upfront but his lack of physicality meant he was an easy target for opponents to bully.
In his post match reaction, Johnson Smith suggested that the addition of a burly figure to double up the attack could prove the needed help to improve the team attacking wise and also help get the best out Of Kwame Poku.
“The boy (Gama) is being bullied. So if we get a striker who’s stronger and can support Kwame Poku (it will help matters),” Johnson Smith told the post match interview panel.
“Kwame Poku works too hard. We get him exhausted (he needs help),” he concluded.
Kotoko have so far being denied the services of attackers Augustine Okrah and William Opoku Mensah, following a transfer abroad for the former and the expiry of the contract of the latter.
