Kurt Okraku reaffirms commitment to dig boreholes for clubs
The Ghana Football Association President, Kurt E. S. Okraku has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment towards carrying on with plans to construct mechanized boreholes at various football venues across the country.
About 8 months ago, the Ghana FA President revealed his plan to invest close to $300,000 as part of a strategy to improve competitions via the provision of mechanized boreholes at local league centers.
The borehole project per his explanation was geared towards developing pitches and game centres for the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, Women’s Premier League and other competitions of the Regional Football Associations.
In an interaction with the top brass of Ghana Premier League side Aduana Stars on Tuesday, Kurt Okraku emphasized the need to carry out with the project.
“Before the end of the first round of the league, I was so worried with the state of your pitch (Nana Agyemang Badu I Park) but I’m impressed today seeing how greener it has become,” he told management members of Aduana Stars.
“It is because I want clubs to keep their pitches green at all times that’s why I pledged to dig boreholes for all clubs so you will have regular glow of water to keep the pitch green.
“I know you already have a borehole but you will still need it. All other clubs will also have their boreholes very soon as I shall keep my promise.
“Talks with FIFA on the borehole projects are far advanced and very soon, you will all have your boreholes,” he added.
The mechanized borehole strategy will be funded via the FIFA Forward 1.0 programme.
The Ghana Football Association President is currently leading a ten member delegation to visit selected centers and clubs in the Bono, Ahafo and Northern Regions.
The tour which will last for four days is to allow for engagements on how best hooliganism can be clamped down on in Ghana Football.
Recent happenings in the Division One League, most especially Zone 1 has threatened the peace and sanity of the local game. Attacks on referees and other officials have been rampant and the Ghana FA boss with his Executive Committee have taken this highly commendable step to engage clubs and find a lasting solution to this canker bedeviling the game.
