Good evening and welcome to today’s live text coverage of the final Group G encounter of the Africa qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar.

The footballghana team continues the live coverage of the qualifiers and this evening focuses on the action at the Cape Coast Stadium between Ghana and South Africa.

In today’s contest, a win of any kind will send Ghana to the next round of the qualifiers while avoiding defeat will ensure South Africa wins Group G to advance to the final stage of the qualifiers.

Ahead of kick-off at 19:00GMT, Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac has named a strong starting lineup to do battle for his team.

Midfield dynamo Mubarak Wakaso who did not start the last match against Ethiopia is starting today alongside Baba Iddrisu in the middle of the park.

Below is the starting eleven of South Africa paraded by head coach Hugo Broos.

The two teams are on the pitch for the routine warm-up before kick-off. This should be a good one.

With warm-ups done we are just 15 minutes away from kick-off at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Kick-off:

1′ We are off at the Cape Coast Stadium. It is South Africa that kicks us off for this evening’s encounter.

2′ Chance!! Ghana has a corner kick after a minute into the first half. Chance wasted as the poorly delivered corner kick is cleared.

4′ Ghana seeing most of the ball but South Africa showing great composure in defense.

6′ CHANCE!! Free kick for Ghana in a good area. A good delivery can result in a goal. Mohammed Kudus takes but it is a poor effort. Goal kick to South Africa.

10′ Early parts of the first half have proven Ghana certainly has the advantage. It remains goalless in Cape Coast.

13′ BIG BLOW: Mohammed Kudus picks an injury. He is replaced by Daniel-Kofi Kyereh.

14′ We are getting better and closer, Jordan Ayew forces his way through but his final shot from close range is blocked and cleared for a corner.

17′ Substitute Daniel-Kofi Kyereh races through on goal but skies his shot on goal.

23′ Corner for Ghana after mounting pressure on the away team. Wakaso takes but it is cleared to safety.

26′ South Africa attempts to attack with a long ball but Daniel Amartey is strong to stop the advances of the away team.

30′ Penalty to Ghana!!!

32′ GOAL!!! Ghana takes the lead through captain Andre Ayew who scores from the spot.

35′ Andre Ayew goes down after a heavy tackle. He signals to be in pain for some moments but eventually stands up to continue.

37′ South Africa now pushing men forward to find the equalizer. A cross is sent in from the right but Alexander Djiku is there to clear the ball to safety for Ghana.

39′ Mubarak Wakaso with a trademark sliding tackle to break down a play from South Africa. Advantage Ghana as play continues.

40′ We are into the last five minutes of the match.

42′ Free kick for South Africa in a good position. It is lifted into the area of Ghana but Jojo Wollacot comes out to punch the ball to safety. Flag up for offside though.

45′ We will do just two minutes of added time.

Halftime:

Andre Ayew’s goal from the penalty spot is the difference for Ghana after the first 45 minutes. We are back after 15 minutes for the second half.

Second Half:

46′ We are back underway for the second half. Ghana gets to kick us off this time. Will there be a way back for South Africa?

47′ Baba Rahman as shoved off down the flanks after pacing from his own half to try to send in a cross. He is given a free-kick.

49′ South Africa playing well but not with enough men forward to cause any form of damage.

50′ Ghana 1-0 South Africa – As things stand, the Black Stars will advance to the next round of the Africa qualifiers.

51′ Andre Ayew gives away possession cheaply. South Africa attacks but tracking Baba Rahman intercepts the final pass to clear the ball from danger.

54′ Free kick for Ghana in a dangerous position. Andre Ayew fancies this one.

55′ Jordan Ayew takes the free kick but Ronwen Williams easily makes the save.

58′ South African poster boy Percy Tau attempts to make something happen for the team. He comes forward with intent but is dispossessed on the edge of the Ghana box.

60′ Ghana goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot is quick off his lines to make a save. 30 minutes more to decide this one.

63′ South Africa have dominated play in the last five minutes. Ghana breaks on a counter-attack before Jordan Ayew is fouled.

66′ Kamaldeen Sulemana turns his marker and sends a cross in, Andre Ayew heads wide. He was offside anyway.

69′ Kamaldeen Sulemana skies his effort after doing so well to work off his marker.

72′ Alexander Djiku loses a ball in Ghana’s half, South Africa takes advantage to attack but ends up appealing for a penalty kick. Referee will have none of that and whistles for a goal kick.

75′ Kamaldeen Sulemana with some good work down the flanks, attempts to tee up Jordan Ayew but South Africa clears. Corner kick to Ghana.

78′ CHANCE!!! Kamaldeen with a chance to put the ball in an empty net. He manages to fire his shot but misses the target.

81′ Substitution!! Ghana makes a second substitution: Richmond Boakye-Yiadom replaces Kamaldeen Sulemana.

85′ Ghana is just five minutes away from advancing to the last round of the qualifiers to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

90′ We will do three minutes of injury time.

It is all over at the Cape Coast Stadium. Ghana beats South Africa 1-0 to top Group G to qualify for the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
