LIVE UPDATES: Ghana 2-3 Comoros – 2021 AFCON

Good evening and welcome to the live text coverage of the Group C match between Ghana and Comoros this evening.

The Black Stars play a final group game in dire need of a win to progress to the knockout stage of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

After failing to win any of the first two matches of the tournament being held in Cameroon, the Black Stars must today whip the last Group C opponent or risk being eliminated.

Ahead of the crucial game that will kick off at 19:00GMT, Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac is not taking things likely at all.

He has made several changes to his team but the back four remains the same with Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku fielded as the centre pair.

Thomas Partey has a big role to play in midfielder after being paired with Daniel Kofi Kyereh in the absence of the injured Iddrisu Baba.

Ayew brothers Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew lead the lines for the Black Stars with teenagers Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Kamaldeen Sulemana unleashed on the flanks.

Kindly note that the other Group C match between Morocco and Gabon is being played simultaneously this evening. The top three teams in the group all have a good chances of booking a place in the knockout stage after today’s games.

The Ghana and Comoros teams are out on the pitch for a pre-game warm-up. Be reminded that kick-off is in the next 30 minutes. Who wins this crucial game???

First Half:

1′ We are off at Stade Omnisport Roumdé Adjia. It is Ghana v Comoros.

3′ Goal!!!! Comoros takes an early lead. Chaos at the back for the Black Stars results with the opponent taking advantage to score.

5′ Free kick for Ghana in a dangerous position. Andre Ayew takes tries to find a teammate but the effort at goal is cleared for a corner kick. Unfortunately, Comoros clear the ball to safety.

7′ This looks like it will be an open game for the entire 90 minutes. Both Ghana and Comoros have opened up play and playing with a lot of confidence.

9’ Great play by Daniel-Kofi Kyereh who is now fouled. Ghana needs to score in this first half.

13’ Comoros defending very well in this first half. The Ghanaians in the stands cannot believe this. So can Ghanaians back home believe this. The AFCON has defied every script.

16’ Andre Ayew latches onto a very good ball, twists and turns but sends the ball into touch.

19’ Both teams have slowed down in the last five minutes of the game.

21’ Kamaldeen Sulemana with a ferocious effort from distance. The Comoros goalkeeper spills the saved shot as Andre Ayew goes in hard.

22’ The goalkeeper is in pains after that challenge and requires medical attention.

25’ Things go from bad to worse for Ghana. Captain Andre Ayew is show a red card with the Black Stars trailing by a goal to nil. This was harsh.

27’ After the change from Comoros and the red card incident, the game has restarted.

30’ Half an hour played and Ghana still trail Comoros but that lone early goal. Be reminded that the team is playing with 10 men now.

34’ Mistake by the Comoros defender nearly gifts Ghana a chance. It is a corner for the Black Stars. Unfortunately, no danger as Comoros clear their lines.

37’ Abdul Fatawu Issahaku tries an effort from range. It test the Comoros goalkeeper but he is equally up to it.

38’ Free kick for Ghana in a dangerous position. Thomas Partey almost scores but misses the target by inches.

40’ We are into the final five minutes of the first half.

44’ Corner kick for Ghana. Could be the last chance of the game before the break.

45’ We will do just two minutes of added time.

Halftime: The referee brings the first half of the game to an end. Ghana 0-1 Comoros.

We are back after 15 minutes for the second half action.

Second Half:

46’ Ghana kicks us off for the second half. Quick change on the touchline. Midfielder Edmund Addo replaces Ababa Abdul Rahman.

47’ Abdul Fatawu Issahaku breaks free and pulls the trigger. He effort is deflected out of play but the resulting corner is wasted.

50’ Chance for Comoros from a free kick. It is wasted as Ghana gains possession.

53’ Ghana dictating play but yet to break down the strong Comoros defense.

56’ There is a temporary hold up with a Comoros player down on the turf and requesting to be changed.

60’ Change for Ghana as Richmond Boakye Yiadom and Joseph Paintsil come on.
